This plein air painting came from a dream I had during our recent 'safer at home'. It was nearly Easter and I dreamt I was digging a hole in the garden much bigger than what I needed to plant this Easter lily. It was a difficult dream but not scary. When I woke I went outside and took our lily....I dug the hole and began thinking about all those who died of Covid...I also thought about Caravaggio's burial of Christ image. Now when I look at the painting I remember all those who have died, all those who have suffered and that includes the recent death of George Floyd. It is a painting of memorial, remembrance and honor. It is a sober painting but very deeply hopeful. I know it is not as colorful as other paintings but the tone of it is honest. I hope it touches your heart. Thank you for reviewing my work.
