Blue Sun over Humboldt Bay

Oil on canvas painted on location over several sittings. It was a valuable experience for after seeing the sun the way it was directly it appeared blue. It occurred to me that the only way for it to appear as striking and hot to the eye as it was, I needed to not second guess what I saw. If is for this very reason reason I feel the need to paint outdoors to ensure Im making those observations directly from nature, that might never happen from a photo.
