6x8 Oil on Gator Board at Point Pinole In Richmond, Ca
A lovely little patch of poppies I stumbled. This small work is an interesting combination of poppies with the distant eucalyptus tree, both equally iconic symbols of California coastal landscapes. Poppies are in bloom, at least in Northern Cal. We don’t get the “super blooms” of SoCal, however we get our own share of lush green hills and a good verity of native plants. Poppies are native to Ca and the eucalyptus was introduced in the 1870s in large scale. Depending on who you ask, the the trees are either a beloved adopted plant or scorned evasive species. I’m somewhere in the middle. But I love painting them.
